Lardner/Klein has experienced Landscape Architects and Planners:

Elisabeth Lardner, ASLA and AICP
Elisabeth Lardner has been practicing landscape architecture, planning, and urban design for thirty years.  She is a graduate of Harvard University’s Urban Design department with the honor of distinction, and the University of Oregon’s Landscape Architecture department.  Ms. Lardner’s work in developing innovative implementation techniques has helped community groups such as the Village of Midlothian Volunteer Coalition improve community appearance by utilizing small incremental projects – geared towards the annual fund-raising capabilities of the organization and apply for grants to fully construct a park such as in Chincoteague, Virginia.  Ms. Lardner's work on the Community Design Initiative in Hindman, Kentucky was honored by Places Magazine and the Environmental Design Research Association.  Ms. Lardner is currently serving as the author of several natural resource management plans for Fairfax County Parks as well as a plan to help Prince George's County, Maryland guide growth and development towards the existing  villages of its emerging Rural Tier.


Jim Klein, ASLA
Jim. Klein is a registered Landscape Architect with over thirty years of experience in the fields of landscape architecture, environmental planning, and corridor planning and design.  Mr. Klein is a nationally recognized expert in the preparation of corridor management plans for scenic byways, heritage touring routes, community entrance corridors, greenways and trail corridors.  Mr. Klein’s has extensive experience in context sensitive design and solutions for transportation projects, especially those with important historic, scenic, and cultural resources including work on the Route 50 Traffic Calming Project in Loudoun and Fauquier Counties in Virginia.  Mr. Klein, licensed to practice Landscape Architecture in nine states, recently completed the award-winning management plan for the Journey Through Hallowed Ground corridor from Gettysburg to Monticello and is currently working on corridor management plans for the Star-spangled Banner National Historic Trail in Maryland and a Master Plan for Interpretation for the Rapphannock Station Civil War Battlefield in Fauquier County, Virginia among other projects.

Sarah Couchman, ASLA,
Sarah Couchman, 
a Registered Landscape Architect in t Virginia, received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Wellesley College and her Master of Landscape Architecture degree from Virginia Tech.  She has been with Lardner/Klein since February 2007 and served as the project planner for the recently completed Journey Through Hallowed Ground Corridor Plan and the Religious Freedom Byway Management Plan.  Ms. Couchman is currently working on the Bayshore Heritage Byway Corridor Management Plan along the Delaware Bay in New Jersey

Jacob Clark,  ASLA, LEED AP
Jacob Clark,  a Registered Landscape Architect in Virginia, received his bachelors of Landscape Architecture from Louisiana State University and has been with Lardner/Klein since 2007. Mr. Clark, who recently received LEED® accreditation through the U.S. Green Building Council, is currently working on the Anacostia River Walk Trail (Kenilworth Section) in Washington D.C. and a context sensitive traffic calming plan for Route 5 through Historic Saint Mary's City.  Jacob recently designed a 3-d animation drive through to help the residents of rural Prince George's County to better understand how a rural village might be developed to conserve traditional farm and forest land.

Cara Smith
Cara Smith, Associate ASLA,  completed her Masters of Landscape Architecture degree from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2010.  Prior to pursing a graduate degree,  Ms. Smith earned a certificate in Landscape Design from the University of Richmond.   She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of William and Mary with a double concentration in Studio Art and Hispanic Studies, and a minor in dance.  Cara is currently working on the Natural Resource Management Plan for Old Colchester Park, and the Corridor Management Plan update for Maryland's Historic National Road.
