Flight 93 Memorial

The Flight 93 National Memorial Corridor Study is nearing completion!

This project is jointly funded by approved grants through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Land Use Planning and Technical Assistance Program (LUPTAP) and by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation through the Southern Alleghenies Planning and Development Commission’s Unified Planning Work Program.

The lead agency for Somerset County for this project is the Somerset County Planning Commission (SCPC), an agency of Somerset County government. The County has hired, a multi-disciplined team headed by Lardner/Klein Landscape Architects, a nationally recognized firm with expertise in corridor planning from Alexandria, Virginia. The Pennsylvania Environmental Council is providing additional assistance to help with public involvement for the study.

An Advisory Committee has been guiding the development of the plan comprised of key stakeholders within and outside the study area. The Advisory Committee has met on a bi-monthly basis throughout the study to brainstorm ideas and issues, develop a vision for the corridor, and review draft recommendations.  Three public meetings have been held to make sure we have responded appropriately to all of the initial comments and suggestions and the resulting plan is consistent with the vision of those that live or work along the corridor, and those that enjoy its rural character and qualities.
